For those who haven't been involved in the open scrimmages before, they are teh awesome. Bring a white and a black shirt (ideally with your name & number on them), everybody lines up with the rest of their color on their side of the track, and the first five people in the line play the next jam and then return to the end of the line.
Last year was the first time that they let dudes play, and it went over extremely well. However, we didn't have enough dudes to take full advantage of the boy-only time, so it was mostly co-ed. Not that there's anything wrong with that at all, and I specifically enjoy that for the opportunity to play against some of the veteran stars of tournaments, but we have a really good opportunity to get some jams in against each other, AND to show the national derby community our skills -- the overwhelming majority of rollergirls have never seen boys play, and while it tends to make them feel a little funny at first, by the end they're usually screaming our names
In other words: show the fuck up and let's get it on! I intend to be there every night but Sunday (I'm reffing at Flamingo Banks that night.)
Holler in this thread if you're planning to go.
